Call for Papers
Interdisciplinarity in humanities integrates methodologies, theories, and ideas from various academic fields, transcending conventional boundaries to address challenging questions and gain a more comprehensive understanding of complex issues, phenomena, or subjects. Thus, the panel explores the dynamic landscape of interdisciplinary approaches within the humanities.
The discussion investigates the potential of interdisciplinarity to offer multi-layered insights into subjects, aided by recent ontological understandings, such as the influence of technology on knowledge production and the emergence of novel difficulties demanding cross-disciplinary approaches. It challenges conventional perceptions by examining what it truly means to pursue interdisciplinary pathways. The conference seeks to unpack whether the integration of methods and theories from other disciplines in humanities research influences its scientific credibility and how traditional approaches coexist or confront this evolution. While interdisciplinary approaches hold promise in advancing knowledge, they aren't without challenges. The panel aims to confront these challenges head-on by addressing concerns about the time, effort, and resistance encountered within traditional academic structures.
Essentially, this conference serves as a platform to dissect the complexities, potentials, and limitations of interdisciplinary approaches within the humanities, fostering a dialogue for a more comprehensive understanding of research methodologies in the 21st century. This topic rests on its relevance in shaping the future of humanities research.
We invite contributors to share how early career researchers of the humanities encounter interdisciplinarity in their ongoing or recent work, and we will be glad to give floor to different types of experiences.
The conference seeks to address a wide range of topics and questions, including but not limited to:
- What is the current role of interdisciplinary research in the humanities?
- What is interdisciplinarty? What different fields does it usually incorporate?
- How are you incorporating an interdisciplinary approach to your research, what benefits it provides?
- Interdisciplinarity, multidisciplinarity, mixed-methods etc. - what are the different modes of relating disciplines?
We invite a variety of presentation formats with the aim of encouraging early career researchers to explore different ways of presenting their work and providing more freedom for creative expression. We welcome you to present your ideas in three formats:
1. Session presentations: 15 presentation + 15min discussion
Interested participants are invited to submit an abstract of no more than 300 words along with a short bio (150 words). The abstract should include both the problem/phenomenon under discussion and the possible solution/findings.
2. Science slam: 3-5 min presentation
We invite interested participants to submit a description (up to 300 words) of their creative presentation method and chosen topic, along with a brief bio (150 words). We encourage creative way of presenting/explaining the (ongoing) research (lightning talk, humor, music/rap, video etc.)
3. Poster presentations:
Interested participants are invited to submit an abstract of no more than 300 words along with a short bio (150 words). A poster presentation is a form of presentation in which all the information related to the work is displayed on a poster. The poster can be designed using any chosen style or design elements. A poster presentation should include the following sections:
- Introduction: A brief overview of the background, explaining why the study was conducted.
- Objectives: The problems the work aims to address; the hypothesis/hypotheses or research question(s) the study seeks to prove.
- Methodology: A description of the research method, the subject or study participants, the methodology for data collection, and the criteria used.
- Results: The key findings of the research, with possible references to graphs and/or figures (this section is optional if the study is still in progress).
- Conclusions: A summary of the work.
- Sources and Literature: References used in the research.
Each participant will have a display board available for mounting their poster, with a total height of 2.2 meters and a width of 1 meter. Posters in A3 size can be mounted in a vertical (portrait) orientation on the board.
